چکیده

A computational approach is presented for steady Dupuit interface flow where the aquifer extends below the sea. A detailed approach is outlined to determine the head at the coastline so that the solution below the leaky seabed may be combined with any type of steady Dupuit interface flow in the aquifer below the land. The method allows for any inland boundary condition including specified head and specified flux; cases of freshwater lenses caused by infiltration are also considered. The approach is implemented in a Python script and a Jupyter Notebook. 2017 The Authors. Published by Elsevier B.V. Management of groundwater resources of Mahvelat-Faizabad aquifer and evaluation of extent of saline water zone using numerical simulation

The unmanaged groundwater extraction and inadequate aquifer recharge is the major cause of groundwater depletion in different parts of the world. In this study, the groundwater flow system of Mahvelat-Feizabad aquifer (NE of Iran) has been numerically simulated using MODFLOW code in the GMS interface. The model, primarily, calibrated for steady state condition for the mean hydraulic values of o...

Evaluation and Simulation of Groundwater Flow in Aquifers Enclosed With Desert Saline Areas (Case Study: Isfahan Province-Ardestan Aquifer)

Quantitative changes in groundwater and crises resulting from uncontrolled water extraction have turned water resources management into one of the supply-demand dilemmas in arid regions. The present study evaluated the quantitative situation of water resources in the Ardestan Plain adjoining the Ardestan desert by using the MODFLOW mathematical model. Simulation of groundwater flow in the stead...

Mixing at the interface between two fluids in aquifer well upconing steady flow

[1] Because of transverse pore-scale dispersion, a mixing layer develops along the interface between a lighter fluid (fresh water) that flows toward a well or sink above a heavier fluid (seawater) in a steady axisymmetric configuration. The Peclet number characterizing mixing, Pe = L/aT, where L is the aquifer thickness and aT is transverse dispersivity, is generally much larger than unity. The...

Impact of coastal land reclamation on ground water level and the sea water interface.

Land reclamation in coastal areas may have a significant effect on local ground water systems. Steady-state analytic solutions based on Dupuit and Ghyben-Herzberg assumptions are derived to evaluate this effect. Two situations are considered, both with ground water flow resulting from precipitation recharge: the coastal aquifer of an extensive landmass and an island. The results show that after...

Application of an Analytical Solution as a Screening Tool for Sea Water Intrusion.

Sea water intrusion into aquifers is problematic in many coastal areas. The physics and chemistry of this issue are complex, and sea water intrusion remains challenging to quantify. Simple assessment tools like analytical models offer advantages of rapid application, but their applicability to field situations is unclear. This study examines the reliability of a popular sharp-interface analytic...
